For students staying home and planning to attend school this summer, Brookhaven College offers a variety of courses students can take through the Workforce and Continuing Education Division simply for leisure or to develop a skill.



Here are a few courses students can enroll in for under $100:



Ballroom Dance - DANZ 1000-23229, $38, four, one-hour meetings, May 7-28

Re-live the favorites from the 1930s and 40s as well as today's music. Learn the Foxtrot, Tango, Rumba, Waltz, Cha-Cha and East Coast Swing.

Guitar - MUAZ 1000-24212 or 1000-24211, $90, seven, two-hour meetings, June 6-July 25 or June 10-July 22

For the absolute beginner, or intermediate students who want to review, students begin this course learning to hold and tune the guitar before progressing to chords, scales, timing and playing basic songs.

Digital Cameras: How to Use Your Point and Shoot Camera - PHOZ 1000-24206, $35, three, three-hour meetings, June 2-16

Discover how to use the features of your digital camera to its full potential. There are simple adjustments students can make to the camera settings to produce better images. Students provide their own digital camera.

Floral Design: Identification of Flowers and Foliage - FMKT 1000-24206, $65, three, three-hours meetings, June 1-June 8

This course surveys the major groups of plants - flowering plants, conifers, ferns and bryophytes - focusing on plant form and structure. Students learn about the relationships between form and function, ecology and systems, in order to become botanically literate.

Personal Finance: Financial Management Workshop - BUSZ 1000-23253, $59, two, three-hour meetings, May 5-12

This course introduces the key concepts and practices that are critical to wealth creation, wealth management, retirement income generation and ultimate wealth transfer. Attendees will learn planning techniques and strategies to harness their cash flows and financial assets in order to meet financial goals and objectives.
